Tips for Shoe Care
It is easy to care for your shoes. To keep your shoes in good condition, avoid leaving them at places where they will be exposed to direct heat or sun, such as a dishwasher, washing machine, or hot car. Direct exposure to heat or sun can cause your shoes to shrink, warp or cause damage to the cushion.
To keep your joggers or sneakers clean, simply wash them with cold water and a mild soap. Leather shoes can be gently wiped off with a clean damp cloth, or using a professional product which has been designed to clean leather shoes. Never use harsh chemicals such as alcohol or detergent, as they will remove the shine and lustre from your shoes and may damage the leather.
For shoes made with Suede, gently brush them and remove dirt with a damp rag. You can use a protector spray to repel liquids and stains for your shoes. Shoes with a cork footbed can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Make sure not to over saturate the footbed. Air-dry the shoes overnight. You can also create a great cleaner for a cork footbed by using baking soda and water. Combine two tablespoons of water with one tablespoon of baking soda. This should create a paste. Add more baking soda if it is too watery.
- Gently scrub the paste onto the footbed using an old toothbrush. Scrub in a circular motion and wipe off with a damp cloth.
- Allow your shoes to dry before attempting to clean them further. Take care not to over saturate the footbed. Always avoid direct sunlight or heat for drying purposes.
- Lastly, you may choose to apply a cork sealant to prevent the exposed cork from drying out. Done periodically, this application will prolong the life of your shoes.
